1 in 28 people in the UK is living with Long Covid. Many of them are working people who, even in better economic times, can ill afford to miss time off work or worry that their performance may decline through the physical and cognitive effects of Long Covid.
In the current economic climate, employers cannot afford to lose large numbers from the workplace through sickness absence. There is also an increased risk of discrimination and harassment due to long term health, which we are particularly concerned about at Glass Ceilings and keen to ensure is avoided in employment. Sadly, we are hearing more of this from people and employers.
Not just because it is the right thing to do for people, it is good business sense to protect people’s long term health and safety. It has been recognised for a long time that a healthier workforce is more productive and costs less money in employee turnover, sickness absence, long-term vacancies, and recruitment exercises.
There are simple and cost-effective ways to reduce the spread of Covid (and other illnesses) in the workplace.
