Our reflections on women being less likely to be awarded pay rises

According to several news articles, women who ask for a pay rise are less likely to receive them than their male counterparts. We are not impressed by this.

Glass Ceilings’ approach:

  • Pay should be attached to the role, not the person.
  • Pay at least the going rate for the job and reward high achievement with development opportunities, promotions, or as part of a bonus scheme fairly applied to all on grounds of achievement.
  • Only when pay structures are built in this way, will gender-based or any other form of bias be removed and equal pay achieved.
