State Opening of Parliament

The State Opening of Parliament is taking place today, during which the Government lays its legislative programme before Parliament.

The new government’s manifesto was light on detail in terms of law and policy, and under the constitution technically a government needs its King’s Speech to pass in the UK Parliament, which is why we are not providing detailed insights until we have seen more substance to the legislative proposals.

We will be taking a balanced look through the proposed legislation today to see what the new government is proposing to consider potential impacts, across different sectors, in particular on businesses; employment and worker’s rights; inclusion; and the wider economy.

Updates will be posted here, as and when they emerge.

Just a reminder that we remain politically neutral in our work. The Labour Party’s manifesto used our old tagline ‘breaking down barriers to opportunity’ but we are not affiliated in any way and have purposefully removed our old tagline to avoid any potential confusion.
