Heart Month 2026

February is Heart Month. Sadly, someone in the UK dies every 3 minutes from cardiovascular disease. Despite many myths, cardiovascular health is indiscriminate and can affect anyone, at any age, and for a variety of reasons.

I’ve quietly supported charity the British Heart Foundation through various donations for a couple of decades now, having lost beloved relatives due to cardiovascular complications in my teens and twenties.

The British Heart Foundation does fantastic work carrying out important research and supporting people living with cardiovascular disease and related conditions.

Work can play an important role in cardiovascular health. The British Heart Foundation also has a Health at Work programme which I highly recommend anyone with responsibility for workplace health and wellbeing checks out.

It’s important for trained First Aiders to be available if needed. Also, having defibrillators on site with people suitably trained to use them in the event of an emergency.

Very sadly, I have responded to deaths in service from heart complications over the past 18 years.

I’ve also supported people struggling with grief following bereavement or who were overwhelmed trying to balance their career with caring responsibilities and coming to terms with loss.

These experiences shape and inform Glass Ceilings Change Management’s approaches.

We provide advice to organisations of all sizes and sectors on how to best support employees returning following serious illness or who are living with long term ill health and disability.

We also provide advice and support for those with caring responsibilities. It can be hard to see someone you love suffering with cardiovascular disease.

Our Glass Ceilings Work-Life Inclusion Policy Framework® includes inclusive special types of leave and bereavement policy approaches.

My thoughts are very much with anyone affected by any of the issues raised here, not just during Heart Month.
