As February ends today, so does Heart Month. Cardiovascular health conditions affect people longer than one month a year so this month, our CEO Laura Evans has had various conversations around the following as part of Advisory Board and other wider work:
- Long term ill health and disability in the workplace, including cardiovascular health.
- Improving support for, and understanding of, bereavement in the workplace.
Improving work-life inclusion for those in the workplace with caring responsibilities. - Greater recognition for those who may not be classed as a Carer but nevertheless have a loved one with long term ill health and disability, or a terminal diagnosis, who they will want flexibility to look after or just spend time with, sometimes at short notice.
- Cumulative impact of workplace pressures and stress on cardiovascular health, even in those who do not have an underlying condition.
- Impact of Covid infections on heart health, and the rise in cardiovascular-related health issues since the start of the pandemic.
- Improving understanding of the intersection between public health and workplace and societal impacts, such as on unemployment and long term sickness rates, education, social mobility, and the resulting generational economic impacts – a lot more can (and should) be done across this area.
