IDAHOBIT Day 2022

Today is IDAHOBIT DAY – International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. The 17th May was chosen to commemorate the date in 1990 when the World Health Organisation’s General Assembly removed homosexuality from its list of psychiatric diseases. Yes, it was as late as 1990 – that is not a typo.

Allyship is critical to help tackle homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia every day. Our CEO, Laura Evans, has been an active Ally to the LGBTQ+ community for over 20 years and is a Stonewall Workplace Ally. In 2010, she won an award in the Civil Service for her work in tacking transphobia in the workplace and society. Reflecting on this, Laura said:

“In my career, I’m proud to have introduced an alternative applications’ policy for pre-employment checks at the DBS. In 2010, I won an award in the Civil Service for my Allyship and for actively supporting Trans rights in the workplace, also following a hate crime incident on public transport where I tackled a passenger who was verbally abusing a fellow passenger for stepping out in the gender with which they identified during their transition. I will continue to do this, as will Glass Ceilings.”
