International Workers Memorial Day 2024

On International Workers’ Memorial Day, we remember and pay tribute to all those who have died, been injured or made sick through work activity.

According to research by the ‘International Labour Organisation’ and the ‘United Nations Global Compact’, work-related deaths globally have increased by more than 12% since 2000. Each year, an estimated 2.78 million people die from occupational accidents and work related diseases, whilst 374 million people live with the consequences of non-fatal accidents whilst working.

In Great Britain, the Health and Safety Executive’s most recent published statistics from the annual Labour Force Survey (2022/2023) found 1.8 million people were living with a work-related illness, leading to 35.2 million working days lost to work-related illness and injury, at a cost of £20.7 billion. 135 people died in work-related accidents in 2022-23 whilst 561,000 people sustained an injury at work.

Nobody should go to work and fail to return home safely.
