Glass Ceilings® is concerned to read that even more people find themselves out of work due to long term ill health and disability.
Our CEO, Laura Evans commented:
“It is simply unacceptable that millions of working age people have seen their health and economic prosperity deteriorate to this extent – and it is making the UK poorer. It does not make economic sense to have so many sick people in a society. The longer-term effects risk worsening health outcomes and a reduced ability to recover through living in poverty and issues seeking re-employment, overall setting back progress in removing barriers people face.
The effects will be around for decades. Not only is today’s working age population affected, there is a whole generation of children who will live with long-term health effects well into adulthood, impacting on the next generation entering the labour market too.
We can do so much better to rebuild the nation and support people out of the awful times we’ve been living through. It’s a central part of Glass Ceilings’ mission too.”
