I was very sad to wake to news of Pope Francis’ passing on Easter Monday. He was a compassionate and inclusive world leader, whose innate kindness and influence reached far beyond the Catholic faith and will be missed in an increasingly intolerant world.
He was still calling for fairness for the vulnerable and world peace to the end, even whilst gravely ill, and when few world leaders are doing so. An example to all, of whatever faith or none.
In his Easter message this weekend, Pope Francis said: “There can be no peace without freedom of religion, freedom of thought, freedom of expression and respect for the views of others.”
May he rest in eternal peace.
